CCW Information

Under the penal code, the Sheriff of the County has authority to issue a state of California permit to carry a weapon concealed. Over the past few years some law enforcement agencies have virtually ceased issuing Concealed Weapon Permits. The Sheriff of Shasta County does not intend to do that. For the safety of our residents and in compliance with State law, CCW applicants are required to obtain a certificate of completion from one of the listed firearms safety courses prior to proceeding further with the application process.

Requirements to Qualify

• Be of good moral character.
• A full-time resident of Shasta County.
• Have valid identification.
• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Own and have a gun registered in California.
• Not have any open criminal cases or pending citations.
• Not have any felony convictions or specified misdemeanors. (Penal Code Sections 29900-29905)
• Not have a history of mental illness, or be currently under treatment/counseling for mental or emotional problems.
• Not be on active probation.
• Not be a defendant/respondent named within and subject to a current temporary restraining order/protection order/order after hearing. (Family Code section 621; Code of Civil Procedure 527.6 and 527.8)
• Existing CCW holders from another County or State must apply as 'NEW' applicants

CCW Instructor Information

Due to the recent implementation of Senate Bill 2 (SB2), the Shasta County Sheriff's Office is actively working to assist local CCW instructors in their efforts to meet the requirements to become DOJ certified. For the latest list of approved certified instructors click HERE.

Instructors: Sheriff’s Office staff have been diligently working to find locations for you to secure the necessary training to re-certify. If you are an instructor and need assistance finding a POST certified course that will meet the requirements for certification, call 530-245-6033. These courses have limited capacity and are first come, first serve. Upon completing the new requirements, you will submit this form to the Department of Justice.

If you have any questions regarding the CCW Permit application process or have technical support issues, please contact the Shasta County Sheriff's Office at (530) 245-6000 (option #8).

Effective January 2, 2023, Renewals, Modifications, and Duplicates, CCW permit will no longer have to make an appointment to pick up their updated permit.

The renewal applicant must complete the online application and wait for an e-mail advising them that their permit is approved and ready for pick up.

Once that e-mail is received, they can walk-in on the following days and times:

• Every Wednesday between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM (noon), and 1:00 to 4:00 PM

• Every Thursday between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM (noon), and 1:00 to 4:00 PM

ATTENTION: Those who are applying for a NEW CCW PERMIT are still required to make an appointment online for Mondays or Tuesdays to accommodate being fingerprinted and interviewed.

Anyone who is applying for a NEW CCW PERMIT will still be required to make an appointment.
